Tours and Events - Christmas Eve by the Princes' Road

Christmas Tree

Two important roads intersect at Câmpulung Muscel. The one is the Princes’ Road, used by the rulers of Valahia - today’s Southern Romania - who traveled around the country to the various “Old Courts” (not active during their rule) and to their various summer palaces. The other road is the commercial road used by the Transilvanian merchants to trade with Valahia. Traditions and folklore surrounding the New Year will get us involved in a small part of the life of people in the rural part of Romania. This is the settings of our Christmas party.

Day 1, December 23rd: Pick-up in Bucharest from your location (airport, train station or down-town) during the morning and depart for Valea Mare-Pravăţ. Visit the ruins of the Old Court in Târgovişte, the third Vallahian Capital. Continue to Valea Mare-Pravăţ, where we check in to B&B Valea Mare****.

Day 2, December 24th: After a delicious breakfast, we depart to Curtea de Argeş, where the second Valahian Capital has been established. Visit to the Church of the former monastery of Curtea de Argeş, the Necropolis of the Romanian Royal Family. Upon interest, we shall visit at no extra cost either the stronghold at Poienari, strongly connected to Dracula, or the interesting church in stone at Corbii de Piatră - a church with two altars. This night we expect Santa Clause to come and visit us and give some gifts to the children. In the evening, the Orthodox Lithurgy is very spectacular, although it may last for some good three hours.

Day 3, December 25th: After a delicious breakfast, we shall depart for Câmpulung Muscel, the first Valahian Capital. A brief walking tour of the town shall present us its long history - beginning in the 13th century as a commercial colony of the Transylvanian Saxons.

Day 4, December 26th: During the late afternoon, we shall have a short walk with those interested either on the nearby hills, or to the Nunnery of Nămăieşti, connected to the Apostle Andrew. Its main church is also carved in stone.

Day 5, Deceber 27th: After a delicious breakfast, we shall start our journey back to Bucharest. Visit en-route the Church carved in stone of Cetăţuia. Drop-off in Bucharest at a location of your choice.
